I have been growing orchids for some 30+ years. What started as a single plant soon developed into several plants. Then many plants. Now, it seems that I am constantly dividing my orchids, and having multiples of what once were single plants. Yes, I do LOSE orchids on occasion. It is much like any other living thing. Sometimes, they just die! Maybe they were located in a spot that didn't get enough, or too much, water. Maybe the sun exposure wasn't just right. Maybe I missed the signs that the plant was giving me that said, "HELP!". I say this to say, that even experienced orchid growers can lose plants. But, also to say, watch and "listen" to what the plants are telling you. As a general rule, it doesn't happen over night! 

Growing orchids is not that difficult.
